Tamil Nadu has 526 engineering colleges and over 686 arts and science college. 3 lakhs fresh graduates passing out of these colleges are awaiting a transformation to become a workforce. In our state, 82 lakh individuals are waiting for jobs, after enrolling themselves in employment exchange. 21 lakh individuals are below the age group of below 23 years and 29 lakh individuals fall in to the category of 24 to 35 years (as per 2017 data). We understand from the report that "The number of people unemployed are mostly educated, in states like Tamil Nadu.”
In the whole of India, as per information available on the official website of the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), there are currently nearly 31 million unemployed Indians looking for jobs.
Employers are not satisfied with the quality of the resources available, especially when it comes to employable skills. Employers blame lack of skill among graduating students. In the current scenario, of the seven lakh engineering students that graduate annually from whole of India, merely 7% are fit for core jobs.
